Who We Are

Hi there! We are Laura and Thomas Ferguson, a husband and wife with hearts burdened for the nations to know and love Jesus with a sincere faith and devotion. Until We’re Home was birthed from years of learning what our lane was in regards to world missions, figuring out how to run in it faithfully, and raising our kids with an awareness of and compassion for the nations.

So who are we?

We are adventurers and last-borns who married young and have done a lot of growing up together. Amidst all of that growing up, the Lord has been faithful to grow us more and more into His likeness, from one degree of glory to the other amidst the realities of living in a fallen world. We have walked through suffering, pain, loss, and grief, and have found those to be the same lived experiences of all humankind, no matter where one may find themselves. As we’ve grown to know and better understand the character and nature of God, we’ve come to grow all the more aware of His heart for the nations to know Him and worship Him, and that this isn’t a new plan but rather has been His plan from the very beginning.

So many people involved in global missions can start their introduction story by saying, “when we were newly weds, the Lord called us to serve in __________ where we lived for ____ years.” 

We are not those people. 

While raising a 4 year old and an infant, we felt the Spirit moving us to pray about taking our family to the Middle East. Part of my (Laura) story is that when I was just 23 years old, I had to have surgery to have my entire large intestine removed due to severe ulcerative colitis. The nuances of my beautiful and unique body have often been a determining factor in many of life’s decisions, and this potential move to the Middle East was no exception. 

We prayed, we pursued, and yet the Lord of the Harvest continued to close doors. In the meantime, we plugged into global missions opportunities within our church, helped get others plugged into short-term trips, led Xplore classes where we introduced others to God’s heart for the nations, and continued to pray for and support those that were out in the field. I (Laura) even took on a part-time administrative position helping set people up to go on short-term trips, which gave me a front-row seat to the many teams of workers all over the world eager for us in the west to come and see what the Lord is doing there. I also had a front-row seat to the hearts of those that went be completely changed for the work of the harvest, and I really can’t decide which of those is better than the other.

Again, we felt the nudge to pray and to pursue, which led us to go on an exploratory trip to Eurasia to see if the Lord would call our family there to serve full-time. While I felt more secure in my unique health needs in this particular country, the Lord continued to keep doors closed for us. Confused, and a little slighted, we remained plugged into our church and served faithfully there.

Shortly after this, our family walked through a very traumatic event, which led to a season of loss, grief, and incredible anxiety. Through that season it became very clear that God was calling us to leave our home state, so we moved into a camper and hit the road. Everywhere we went, we prayed:

Lord, is this the place?

Would you call us here?

All the while, one of us (Thomas) was waiting for the other one (Laura) to get the call to global missions again so we could peace outta this place. The thing with calling is the Lord tends to like His people unified, and when you are not there’s cause to pause. That season was just as hard, and in His kindness, He led us to a place that would become a place of refuge and healing. One of the factors that drew us here was the church’s outward heart for the nations. We felt we could easily integrate into a place that already had a heartbeat for the unreached, so that’s what we did.

Not too long after settling down, I (Laura) was given the opportunity to begin teaching a class at a hybrid homeschool program on the topic of world cultures and missions. The director gave me some resources and said, “have fun!” And boy did I! It was here that I saw this beautiful fusion between God’s heart and the heart of children and thought, “man… how can we multiply this?”

So there you have it, we felt the burden to go, and the Lord of the Harvest said, “stay”. With so many more details than need to be shared here and an incredible amount of direction from Jesus, we are using these experiences to launch a shop with the hope of multiplying that fusion of God’s heart with the heart of the child. We believe that when families come together to learn about and pray for the people of the world, their hearts look more and more like the Fathers, and that those very families are readied to answer the call of the Lord of the Harvest!
